Mountain Cyclist April 1999
Club News
The annual ROMP Road and Mountain Bike swap meet will take place Sunday, April 25, 1999 from 10 AM to 4 PM. The swap will be held in the rear parking lot of our sponsor, Cupertino Bike Shop, 10493 S. De Anza Blvd. in Cupertino. Admission is free for buyers. No early birds will be allowed into the area!
Last year we had 80 vendors. Several local big-name manufacturers like Bell Sports, Ibis, and Steelman were selling blemished merchandise, older stock, and one-of-a-kind items at rock-bottom prices. This swap is dedicated to offering road and mountain cycling enthusiasts a huge selection of newer bike parts, frames, clothing, accessories, tools, frames and used bikes in the South Bay.
Because space for vendors is very limited (only 80 spaces), we are asking sellers to register early through Cupertino Bike Shop and mail your payment to hold your space. IMPORTANT NOTE: This year, space registration deadline is Monday, April 5 for you to reserve a spot and mail your payment. Last year we had so many requests for spaces, we ran out of room for those who waited until the last minute to call and register.
This swap is dedicated to cycling enthusiasts, which is why we've heard from many attendees that the ROMP swap meet is THE BEST swap to attend every year in the South Bay for new and used cycling best buys.
The swap meet is a fund raiser for ROMP. 100% of all proceeds are used by the club for programs to educate cyclists on responsible trail riding and trail-sharing.

Any ROMP member who leads eight or more rides this year will get next year's ROMP membership free. We especially hope this will encourage more cyclists to lead slower-paced, less hilly, social rides we have a lot of requests for those! To lead a ride, contact Pete Luptovic, our ride coordinator, at 650-964-6590 or pete3584@alink.net. We have a ride leader instruction guide and checklist to help step you through the process of leading a ride.
Richard Holtermann will be leading two or more rides each month that are very social, friendly rides. We also continue to offer our 4th Saturday beginner's clinic at Russian Ridge and our 1st Sunday ride in Saratoga Gap and Long Ridge, another socially-paced ride. Look for them in the monthly ride listing!

ROMP would like to get input from members on the club's 1999 goals and future direction. Please let your club's board know what you think they should be doing by attending a board meeting, emailing the group list, or contacting a club board member. The more we hear from you, the more we can do for you!
