The Mountain View Community Services Agency sponsors a bike repair and donation program for needy families. Volunteers are needed to repair or assist with repairing bicycles. The volunteer/donation days currently scheduled are April 17 and May 15 from 10 AM to 2 PM at 2566 Leghorn St., west of US 101 between San Antonio and Rengstorff, behind Pedro's Auto Clinic. More events will be scheduled throughout the year.
What To Bring
Please bring a sack of goodies consisting of tools, steel wool, degreaser, lube, gloves, rags, etc. Also, we are happy to accept donations of children's bikes, extra parts, rags, storage bins for parts, disposable gloves, lube. Parts that we are always running out of include small tubes (12.5-inch, 16-inch and 20-inch), tires (all sizes), handlebar grips and tape, seats, cables and cable housing, and other consumable items.
Bicycle Donations
To donate a bike on a weekend, bring it to the workday. Weekdays, contact the Mountain View Community Service Agency, 204 Stierlin Road, 650-968-0836. Donations can be made 9:30 AM 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM 4:30 PM.
Our program specializes in children's bicycles. We do not accept adult size bikes unless they are in exceptionally good condition and we have space available to store them. We trade a limited number of adult bikes with local dealers in exchange for parts.
Junk bicycles can be donated if you bring them to a volunteer day and if you separate the metal for recycling. We'll supply tools and know-how, write a receipt, and salvage any usable parts.

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD) volunteer trail patrol provides a great way to get involved in local open space areas and to demonstrate your commitment to shared access. Members actively participate in the protection of open space lands; assist in monitoring the ecologically sensitive preserve use opportunities provided by MROSD; distribute information, brochures, and maps to preserve visitors; educate visitors about proper trail use and safety; and provide rangers with information on trail use patterns and trail conditions. Members are asked to sign an agreement with the District for a one-year commitment to the program.
Deadline to volunteer is April 12. Mandatory training dates are Thursday, May 6, 7-9:30 PM; Saturday, May 8, 9:30 AM 2:00 PM; and Thursday, May 13, 7-9:30 PM.Contact Paul McKowan at 650-691-1200 or volunteer@openspace.org to sign up or to obtain more information.
